I set up Skin Deep Clinic at the beginning of January 2013. My eldest sister was a great influence in my decision to set up my own business during her fight with ovarian cancer in 2012 (she lost the battle on 3rd Jan 2013). Her words have always stayed with me; “Get out there and do something for yourself. Choose when you work and choose when you don’t…you’ll make it work if you want to.” She made me realise that I needed to take as much control of my life as possible, especially when it could so easily be taken out of my hands.

Starting my own business was a leap of faith and I’ve never looked back. I never anticipated having such a busy schedule; since 2013 I have seen 600 clients and completed 3000 treatments. I have also studied relentlessly which has culminated in the successful completion of a postgraduate qualification in Clinical Anatomy in August 2017. I provide safe and effective treatments and ensure I maintain this standard by enrolling on multiple courses each year. The various courses allow me to try out different products, fine tune techniques, experience other injector techniques and one of my favourite things is watching industry experts perform injections.

I admit, I didn’t spend hours planning the business; mainly I wanted to please everyone. I offered mobile appointments, treatments in my home clinic (previously the dining room) and was generously supported by two well respected local hairdressers in Shrewsbury who had the perfect space available for my use. Since then, I am able to use a room in the extension at my Kinton base along with a room at a large premise on Battlefield Enterprise Park, Shrewsbury with an array of practitioners offering different treatments.

Five years on and the business has exceeded all my expectations. I have completed two client surveys and have been truly touched by the feedback and response rate. The number of clients returning for repeat treatments (some have been with me from day one), is considerably above the industry average.

Popularity and demand for treatments globally has grown significantly, but I am acutely aware that the consumer has more choice than ever when picking a treatment provider. Formal regulation of the aesthetics industry (known as none surgical treatments) is frustratingly, a slow work in progress. I felt that five years was the optimum time to build a new website, create a social media presence and develop a loyalty reward scheme for clients – details to follow in January.

Meanwhile, I thank you for your ongoing support and belief in me. Safety will always be my number one priority and as such, I will only perform treatments that I feel will give a safe and natural look. I hope you like my new website and as always, welcome any feedback.

Wishing you health and happiness for 2018.

Wendy
